Spirit Of The Lift-Off

Winning Team

The Lift Off season at MidState CrossFit is my favorite time of the year. It is the event that we started to use the word magical in regards to this CrossFit Box we call home. It will become your favorite time of the year too, if you let it.

If you had the opportunity to fully participate last year, you might have felt the change in the air that happens over these four electric days.  If you are new, hesitant, and confused about it, I hope these words help you.

“The Lift Off is not about the biggest and strongest lifts. Some people would beg to differ because that’s what is being scored so how could it not be about that.  Trust me, it’s bigger than that.  It’s about being proud of how far you’ve come, physically and emotionally.  It’s about surprising yourself.  It’s about preparing yourself to want to be better.  The magic in the air for four full days is electric. The community comes together to not only prove what we can do but to also lift others up.  The encouragement, the teamwork, and the overall energy in the room is contagious.

Last year, I wrote a little reflection about the first day - The Snatch, that I have not shared before this.

“Day 1: The Snatch

My anxious mind woke up with thoughts of a typical business owner. What’s left to do? What do I need to still buy? Are people going to have fun? I mean the list of questions and concerns goes on and on. That quickly faded when I walked into the gym and the color war had taken off. It was embraced with open arms. Blue and gold filled the gym.

The snatch, let’s be honest, is pretty intimidating. It’s the most technical  lift in the whole, universe? However, watching the gym as a collective throw thousands of pounds over their head with sound mechanics all while pushing their own boundaries made my coaches heart happy.

It wasn’t even about the snatch that made this day fabulous. It was about the attendance, the buy in, the full commitment to the test, the fun, the spirit, that magic… I went to bed that night thinking, man it can’t get better than this… and then it did.” - Coach Gabby written 2022

So let’s all do this thing.  Embrace the wacky and silly.  Throw on your colors.  Be creative.  Spread the word on the socials!  Take the pictures.  Do all the things.  Most importantly, have fun! - Coach Gabby
